Germany Says NATO Not Seeking Regime Change In Russia
Shift in power Russia isn't NATO's goal, in spite of Moscow's attack of Ukraine, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said Sunday, a day after US President Joe Biden marked Vladimir Putin a "butcher" who "can't stay in power".
It "isn't the goal of NATO, nor that of the US president", Scholz told German state TV slot ARD.
"I've gotten the opportunity to talk finally with him at the White House and we have additionally examined these inquiries," he added.
The White House moved rapidly Saturday to make light of Biden's remarks during an enthusiastic discourse in Warsaw.
Having condemned the Russian president as a "butcher" for his attack of Ukraine, Biden said toward the finish of the discourse: "For the wellbeing of God, this man can't stay in power."
"A majority rules system, opportunity and equity have a future all over the place," said Scholz on Sunday.
"However, it's for individuals and to countries to battle for this opportunity," he added.
Scholz's remarks follow read here comments prior Sunday by French President Emmanuel Macron, in which he cautioned against verbal "heightening" with Putin.
